There are some things most people today know about oil.

Global oil output is going to plummet

Prices are going to rise forever

The transition to alternative energy will be long and painful

There will be more oil wars and industrial civilization may collapse

Oil and gas will cause catastrophic climate change

The problem is that these ideas are wrong. Oil ran out first in 1885, and perhaps another five times since then. Every time, new finds, new technologies and changes in oil use confounded the pessimists.

Oil prices above $140 per barrel seem to encourage the growing belief that we are approaching peak oil and that supply cannot increase any more. But what has changed since 1998 when oil cost $10 a barrel? Just that a long period of under-investment in new energy supplies collided with rapid growth in Asia (and, easily forgotten, the USA). It takes years to turn the energy super-tanker around, to develop new oil fields, even though there is plenty in the ground.

There is a real debate over how much oil the world holds. But ideas of a vast conspiracy involving some mix of OPEC, the US government and Big Oil to exaggerate oil reserves are fantasy. Official figures are, if anything, somewhat under-stated, and, as recent massive finds in deep water offshore Brazil show, new exploration frontiers still exist. Out-dated environmental moratoria in the USA could be lifted to yield more domestic hydrocarbons. New technologies continue to wring more out of old fields. Most importantly, unconventional oil sources hold many times the volumes of conventional oil – from the famous Albertan oil sands, to fuels from natural gas, coal and plants, to cooking oil out of shales that hold trillions of barrels in the USA alone.

So there is no need to fight resource wars to secure oil. Invading oil-rich countries is vastly expensive and makes oil supplies less, not more, secure. The Middle East is a growing part of the world economy, not a nest of terrorists, desperate to cut off oil supplies in order to bankrupt themselves and invite vengeance. Propping up dictators in return for energy favours is not a valid long-term strategy either. The West, China, India and the oil exporters will gain far more from co-operating on energy, than following the mirage of energy independence.

Should we invest massively to move to a renewable energy system? Well, we already are — $100 billion in 2006 alone, and not only in the West, but in China, India, Brazil and other rising powers. Its hard to grow renewable energy any faster. Renewables are clearly a key part of powering the future, and of fighting global warming, but oil (and gas, and coal) are going to be the main sources of energy for decades to come. Capturing the carbon dioxide from fossil fuels, and storing it underground, is entirely practical and should be a major part of climate change policy. Renewable energy and hydrocarbons are not enemies — we need to use them both.

So the end of oil is not imminent — neither is the collapse of industrial civilization. Even if oil supplies started declining, we could fill the gap with improved efficiency and new energy sources. Its neither necessary nor desirable for us to go back to some Year Zero of pre-modern society. Oil will never run out; it will be replaced, probably decades hence, by something better. That is the best and most positive reply to fears about the end of oil.

Everybody has heard of hydrogen fueled cars. The price of gasoline keeps getting higher these days and most believe that the days of cheap gasoline are dead and gone. Everybody is looking for a viable alternative and hydrogen seems like it may be the most logical choice. Since about 70% of the planet is covered in ocean, it looks like we have enough hydrogen to go around.

You probably first think of hydrogen cell vehicles when you think of hydrogen fueled cars, but actually hydrogen cell technology is still far from perfected and not available on the market as of yet. Sure, the ads are on TV and you may have even seen a hydrogen cell car on the road, but these are not yet available to the general public and even if they were they would not be anywhere near affordable. In the meantime, there is an old patent that has recently been dug up that may give you a short cut to saving money on gas.

The hydrogen car kit is an old patent that actually turns your car into a water hybrid. All you need to do is add a few small components (essentially, some baking soda, electrical wiring, a fuse, a vacuum hose, and a sealed, quart-sized glass jar) to your vehicle to enable it to run on both gasoline and water and possibly even double your gas mileage. Here’s how it works: first, you build a device that you can put together with items you can buy at a local hardware store and add water. Then, you attach this device to your cars battery and engine. The device uses a little bit of energy from your battery to transform the water inside the device into a gas called ‘HHO’ which is two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen. This gas, also known as Water-Fuel, Brown’s Gas, or Hydroxy, provides a lot of power, burns clean, and it’s only byproduct is water.

The easiest way to figure out how to convert your car yourself is look online. A quick search will turn up dozens of websites that can show you how to convert your car. Though there are a few that want to charge you extravagant amounts for the information, you can get just as good information for much cheaper and the parts you need to pick up at a hardware store will only cost you about $20. Some mechanics out there know how to convert cars into hydrogen fueled cars, but they’ll probably charge you about $300 or more to do it and it’s also very hard to find a mechanic that knows how to do the conversion.

Conclusion

Who isn’t interested in saving money on gas? The increase in the cost of fuel affects every facet of the economy and we’re all feeling the pinch from every angle. By converting your car, you’re steering yourself in the right direction towards the future. Hydrogen fueled cars are a great way to save money and help preserve the environment in one fell swoop.

Not much fuel-efficiency, mind you. On the highway, the X6 Hybrid’s EPA number goes up two notches, but it still doesn’t crack 20 mpg (its 19 mpg) while the city numbers goes from a paltry 12 mpg to a more respectable 17 mpg.
Help answer the question about alternative fuel
What is the cleanest alternative fuel that has been discovered ?
I know each alternative fuel comes with a price (as does everything). The extracting of hydrogen is supposedly not environmentally friendly, this being one of the prices of its implementation. I am not an expert on the subject though. Does anyone know what the cleanest alternative fuel available or that has been found is ? I also am wondering what some of the pros and cons of some of the others are. I suppose cleanest could mean one that is the most environmentally and economically friendly source available so far.

If youre looking for a great way to enhance the exterior of your home or commercial building, look no further: gas lamps are the perfect way to enhance your exterior while providing a functional light source.

The many styles of gas lamps can all be powered by electricity, propane, or gas and displayed in a variety of ways:

Standing Alone: Lanterns of all styles can be mounted on a post or column and positioned wherever you like.

On a Wall: Lanterns can also be mounted directly onto an exterior wall using bracket mounts to light the areas closest to your home or office.

With a Bracket: More elaborate brackets can be used to hang the lantern off of the wall in a more decorative manner, ideal for party and gathering areas such as a patio or deck.

Hanging: Suspend your lantern over a doorway of entryway for a unique alternative to electric lighting fixtures.

Which Style is Best Suited to Your Needs?

With all of these options available, you may be uncertain which style or mounting option is right for you.

Exterior Walls: Brackets are the ideal way to attach a lantern to an exterior wall, providing adequate light in an aesthetically pleasing manner.

Entryways: Hanging is the best way of lighting an entryway. There are many different ways to hang a lantern, and nearly all styles of lanterns are able to be fitted with the appropriate facets to be suspended. Monte Carlo Style lanterns look particularly lovely over an entryway.

Driveways or Walkways: Post mounted lanterns, particularly the French Quarter style due to the light-emanating nature of their tops, are ideal for lighting a path such as a driveway or walkway.

Indoors: The best lantern choice for indoors is an electric lantern, however gas and propane powered lanterns can also be a great choice if positioned safely.

Gas or Electric: While gas lanterns provide a unique look, in some cases electric power is simply more feasible. One of the advantages of French Quarter style lanterns is that every style can be fitted to function with natural gas, propane, or electricity.

Tenerife, a Canary Island off the coast of Africa, is paving the path of using alternative energy sources in the future.

Global warming is having an impact on the world now and it is only expected to worsen. Fuel prices are soaring, and that is causing the price of everything to go up.

In an effort to go green, a new Tenerife action group, Asociacion de Transicion, is finding alternative forms of energy to combat the rising costs of fuel and food.

Renewable Energy: The Cure for Global Warming

Renewable energy is one area of concentration as we move towards a more environment friendly way to get electricity.

The Solar Energy Project is just one example of this kind of thinking. MARE, Mid-Atlantic Renewable Energy, is a project led by Arthur Howard and Wolfgang Ehrlich. According to them, this billion dollar project of putting a platform in the ocean to draw energy from the sun is the answer to global warming.

Cutting Back on Electricity

Whether this project will ever be accepted and produced isn’t known at this time, but something needs to happen to offset the effects of global warming.

Renewable energy (the use of solar, wind and water power) is recommended by environmental groups as a way to protect the environment and our future. To cut back further on electricity, you can use fluorescent light bulbs, install double-pane windows, use only gas-powered appliances, buy a gas on-demand water heater and turn off all appliances when you are not using them. Running lights, TVs and computers when not in use is a waste of energy and money.

The Advantages of Using Solar Power

The concept of using a giant solar panel in the ocean to harvest energy from the sun is not a far-fetched idea.

Solar panels are used to absorb energy from the sun to create usable energy. As we head into a future where energy conservation is a must, we will see more products using solar power panels.

We’ve been using solar powered calculators for years, so why stop there? Expect to see more solar powered gadgets in the near future. We’ve also seen solar panels on roof tops and on landscape lights. Companies will soon expand on these products and make additional products with solar panels to conserve energy and protect our environment.

How Tenerife Conserves Energy

The Spanish island of Tenerife is a major destination for holidaymakers. It brings in more than 9,275,000 visitors per year.

One reason for their conservation efforts is the nature of the island – Tenerife is home to Teide, the tallest volcano and Teide National Park, which surrounds the volcano.

The island is full of rich flora and fauna. It also has rare colonies of protected whales, a three foot lizard and more than 200 bird species.

The beautiful island has the perfect temperature with only slight variations throughout the year, yet global warning is a big concern in Tenerife. Protecting the environment is of utmost importance, especially for the new environmental group.

Tenerife has made impressive strides in protecting the environment and paving a path of natural energy resources for the future.

Tenerife already uses a natural water supply from underground, desalination and renewable energy. The island also cuts back on carbon emissions, and Tenerife is focusing on preserving the delicate environment of the island.

The Swiss auto concern, Rinspeed, unveiled the ichange, at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. It’s the worlds first car whose body adapts to the number of passengers on board. For Rinspeed boss Rinderknecht the vehicle is more than just a clever concept car. The ichange is a symbol for the fundamental changes the auto industry undergoes worldwide. The basic idea behind the ichange:: The energy demand of a vehicle depends mostly on its weight, the type of engine it uses, and its aerodynamic properties. The engineering-services company Esoro that traditionally builds Rinspeed concept cars has built an extremely lightweight car weighing in at only 1050 kilograms. To power the car, the Swiss specialists chose an electric motor. The idea of the pop-up rear end was conceived to account for the sizeable effect aerodynamics play in fuel consumption.
Help answer the question about alternative fuel
Are alternative fuel vehicles the future of environmentally friendly cars?
There are so many types of cars being made to today that are all attempts to lessen pollution and will have an impact on global warming. Do alternative fuel cars triumph over others like water powered cars, electric powered, or fuel efficient ones?

Tired of pumping expensive gasoline into your car? Tired of dead Americans fighting over oil wells in Iraq & oil pipelines in Afghanistan? All you need is a liter of water – any kind of water to be exact, whether its river, rain, sea water, or even Japanese tea. Once the water is poured into a water tank at the back of the car, the newly invented energy generator takes out the hydrogen from the water, releases electrons and finally generates electrical power.
Help answer the question about alternative fuel
ALTERNATIVE FUEL SOURCE: Can we use the Algae in Chinese waters to develop carbon-based fuels?
Has anyone seen the news broadcast about the massive tons of Algae floating in Chinese waters, and how many volunteers are helping to remove it, for the Summer Olympics in Beijing?
I wonder if any of this could be used to develop alternative fuels in addition to ethanol-based gasoline. Some countries are already using sugar-based ethanols and corn-based fuel. Why not this Algae, there is a huge surplus of it?

Is it theoretically and chemically possible?

One of the main benefits of honey is that it retains all its properties even when heated during its manufacturing process. With Sugar, the conversion process from sugar cane to refined sugar causes it to loose all its nutrients thus resulting in what is commonly known as empty calories for sugar.

Honey also offers incredible antioxidant, antiseptic, antimicrobial and cleansing properties for our bodies and health. Even though both honey and sugar are sweeteners and both contain glucose and fructose, honey is the ideal liver fuel because it contains a nearly 1:1 ratio of fructose to glucose.Glycogen is the form which sugar is stored in the muscle and liver cells of our body. The enzyme from the liver cell’s nucleus that is necessary for the incorporation of glucose into glycogen is unlocked by fructose.

Honey also may promote better blood sugar control. Proper fueling of the liver is central to optimal glucose metabolism during sleep and exercise. When we eat sugar our bodies have to use a special enzyme in our pancreas called insulin to convert the sugars to glucose which then can be absorbed by the cells in our bodies to provide us with energy. With honey, the bees add a special enzyme to the nectar which then separates into fructose and glucose. This is done prior during the creation of the honey.

These are two simple sugars that our body cells can absorb directly. The Glycemic Index of honey is much better than processed sugar when you compare the two. The Glycemic Index measures the impact negatively of any given food on the blood glucose level. With a lower Glycemic Index rating, there is a slower absorption and infusion of the sugar into the blood stream which then results in a more measured and healthier digestion process.

Because honey is sweeter than sugar, the total calories intake is lower as less honey is needed to sweeten the same quantity of food item (cereals, cakes, pies, tea, coffee, etc). Therefore, if you are watching your weight or trying to loose weight, honey will be a smarter choice than refine sugar.

Also, the wonderful taste of honey is so unique that is why it is used in several recipes such as honey bread, honey chicken recipes, chicken honey mustard, honey glazed chicken, and honey baked chicken to name a few. The sticky mess that is an issue with regular or organic honey is mitigated by using honey crystals the powdered or dry form of honey. With organic honey crystal you can add a taste of honey to your favorite cookies, breakfast cereal, cakes, pies, rolls, coatings, dressings, and even to sweeten your coffee or tea! by just replacing sugar 1:1 that provides a nice honey flavor without an after taste.

Watch the video related to alternative fuel

Infused oils are another type of oil used in aromatherapy. Infusion is an extraction process that does not involve boiling. Rather, an ingredient, usually an herb, is steeped or soaked for a period of time in some type of liquid so that its active ingredients or soluble elements can be removed. A gentle heat source is needed, such as the sun. When steeped or soaked in oil, the end result is infused oils.

</p>

Infused oils can be used several different ways. They can be added into ointments, creams, lotions, shampoos and other personal care products that are applied topically. In aromatherapy, infused oils are commonly mixed into essential oils or carrier oils. Some people prefer to use infused oils without first mixing them into other ingredients. Unlike essential oils, infused oils are not nearly as concentrated, making them safe to use alone.

Many who practice aromatherapy prefer to use infused oils instead of essential oils. Depending on the plant, it sometimes is just not possible to extract a sufficient quantity of essential oils to make the process cost-effective or worthwhile. Many infused oils provide the user with multiple benefits, which is another reason why they are preferred. Probably the biggest reason why people prefer infused oils is because they can create their own easily and inexpensively.

Creating your own infused oils is easy, you need just a few items: a glass container with tight-fitting lid, a slightly crumbled, completely dried herb or plant, and cold-pressed carrier oil. Using dried herbs is better than using fresh as the moisture contained in fresh can cause mold to develop. After you’ve gathered your ingredients, simply place the herb/flower/plant into the glass container, fill the container half-full with your preferred cold-pressed oil (olive or sunflower work well), cover tightly and place in the sun or next to a heat source for a minimum of 24-hours. A windowsill works just fine.

When the steeping process is finished, hold a sieve over another container and filter the oil. Next, pass the sieved oil through a piece of cheesecloth. Be sure to squeeze the cheesecloth so you get every drop! And make sure you have removed every piece of plant matter to avoid spoilage.

If you would rather not make your own infused oils, don’t worry. You’ll find plenty of outlets that sell infused oils, especially on the Internet. All you’ll need then is your credit card and a shipping address.

Examples of infused oils

St. John’s Wort

This infused oil is great for soothing and moisturizing any type of skin. It is also effective when applied after exposure to the sun.

Calendula

Oil infused with calendula is used by many for its healing qualities. It helps soothe skin and it can also help to balance out skin that is oily.

Arnica

Arnica infused oils are great to use when massaging. In liquid form, it’s an excellent alternative to arnica cream. Just be sure to keep arnica infused oils away from open wounds.

With gas prices still on the rise, getting the best possible fuel economy from your car is more important than ever. Over the long run, it can save you hundreds of dollars. Isuzu, the SUV and pickup truck specialist with the popular Ascender 5-Passenger SUV, offers several tips on its website on how to get the most out of filling up your tank.

Here are just a few of their tips. You can implement them instantly, on any vehicle, and start getting better gas mileage today.

1. Don’t speed away from stop signs and traffic lights. A slower, controlled start uses less gas than a fast one. Most of us drive in the city where crosswalks, traffic signals, and even stop-and-go traffic conditions require frequent stops. Considering the number of stops and starts you make daily, remembering this tip could mean money in your pocket.

2. Replace your air cleaner. Since a vehicle’s power comes from a mixture of air and fuel, a dirty air filter reduces engine performance. Most of us remember to replace our oil filters, but neglect the air filters. Every time you take your vehicle in for service, make your next service appointment before you leave and mark it on your calendar. Doing this will help you stay diligent about keeping your routine maintenance appointments, and therefore, keep your car in tip-top condition.

3. Lighten up. Lighter loads require less power, and hence less fuel, to move them from here to there. Take any unnecessary cargo out of your trunk when driving around town and watch your gas mileage increase. How often do we find ourselves carrying around heavy items “just in case” we might need them, or because we’ve planned to take them somewhere and haven’t gotten around to it? While it may not seem like a big deal to tote cargo around in the trunk, every time we drive, it decreases the number of miles we get per gallon. Dump the junk and take only what’s necessary.

4. Feel the breeze. Reducing the use of the air conditioner helps fuel economy as well. If you’re not in heavy traffic and exhaust fumes aren’t a concern, consider opening your windows and vents instead of automatically reaching for the A/C button.

5. Stop-and-go? Just GO! Avoid routes that require a great deal of stop-and-go driving and try taking side streets and less impacted alternative routes. Constant stopping wastes fuel because energy is diverted in the form of heat caused by the brakes. Timing lights and slowing down enough so that you can avoid stopping will only improve your gas mileage. It will also save wear and tear on your brakes.

For more tips on improving your car’s fuel economy, as well as instructions on how to change a tire and jump start an engine, check out Isuzu’s website. We suggest printing out their directions for both and keeping them in your glove compartment just in case you ever need them.
